Jason Smith is al sinds 1995 aan de Custom Shop verbonden, en dus een ware Custom Shop veteraan! Hij is de zoon van Fender-legende Dan Smith, de man die het merk in de jaren '80 weer op de kaart zette als marktleider op het gebied van elektrische gitaren. Jason Smith leerde het vak verder aan de hand van Senior Master Builder John English, en bouwde later instrumenten voor onder anderen Michael Landau, Josh Klinghoffer en Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
Over deze Stratocaster kunnen we eigenlijk maar één ding zeggen: wát een finish! De spectaculaire Sparkle Cherry Sunburst spat werkelijk van de gitaar af, en om het af te maken heeft hij ook nog een Gold Anodized aluminium slagplaat. Gebouwd met materialen van de hoogste kwaliteit en met uiterste precisie, is dit een prachtig voorbeeld van Smith’s vakmanschap.
In de basis hebben we hier te maken met een gitaar die is gebaseerd op de modellen uit 1956, en in het bijzonder de modellen uit de tweede helft van dat jaar. Fender stapte toen over van essen naar elzenhout. De body vormt een mooie combinatie met de hals die is gemaakt van gevlamd esdoorn die door zijn 60-stijl Oval C-profiel en matte finish heerlijk speelt.
De gitaar verliet als New Old Stock de Custom Shop, en de gitaar ziet er na 9 jaar nog steeds bijna als nieuw uit. Op de neckplate en control plate zijn lichte sporen te vinden, maar verder glanst de gitaar als nooit tevoren. En hij klinkt dankzij de door Abigail Ybarra handgewonden pickups ook nog eens fantastisch! De gitaar wordt met TFOA paspoort geleverd in een koffer.
Jason Smith has been associated with the Custom Shop since 1995, and is therefore a true Custom Shop veteran! He is the son of Fender legend Dan Smith, the man who put the brand back on the map in the 80s as the market leader in electric guitars. Jason Smith learned the trade from Senior Master Builder John English, and later built instruments for Michael Landau, Josh Klinghoffer and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, among others.
We can only say one thing about this Stratocaster: what a finish! The spectacular Sparkle Cherry Sunburst really pops off the guitar, and to top it off it also has a Gold Anodized aluminum pickguard. Built with the highest quality materials and with utmost precision, this is a beautiful example of Smith's craftsmanship.
Basically, we are dealing with a guitar that is based on the models from 1956, and in particular the models from the second half of that year. Fender then switched from ash to alder. The body is a beautiful combination with the neck made of flamed maple that plays wonderfully with its 60-style Oval C-profile and matte finish.
The guitar left the Custom Shop as New Old Stock, and the guitar still looks almost new after 9 years. There are light marks on the neck plate and control plate, but otherwise the guitar shines like never before. And it also sounds fantastic thanks to the pickups hand-wound by Abigail Ybarra! The guitar comes with a TFOA passport in a case.

Zu dieser Stratocaster können wir nur eines sagen: Was für ein Finish! Das spektakuläre Sparkle Cherry Sunburst sticht bei der Gitarre richtig hervor und als Krönung verfügt sie außerdem über ein Schlagbrett aus goldeloxiertem Aluminium. Aus hochwertigsten Materialien und mit höchster Präzision gefertigt, ist dies ein wunderschönes Beispiel für Smiths Handwerkskunst.
Im Grunde handelt es sich hier um eine Gitarre auf Basis der 1956er Modelle, insbesondere der Modelle aus der zweiten Hälfte dieses Jahres. Fender wechselte dann von Esche zu Erle. Der Korpus bildet eine schöne Kombination mit dem Hals aus geflammtem Ahorn, der sich dank seines 60-Style Oval C-Profils und der matten Lackierung wunderbar spielen lässt.
Die Gitarre verließ den Custom Shop als New Old Stock und sieht nach 9 Jahren immer noch fast wie neu aus. Es gibt einige leichte Flecken auf der Halsplatte und der Kontrollplatte, aber ansonsten glänzt die Gitarre wie nie zuvor. Und dank der von Abigail Ybarra handgewickelten Tonabnehmer klingt es auch fantastisch! Die Gitarre wird mit einem TFOA-Pass in einem Koffer geliefert.
