Paul Reed Smith
The credo "Improve until you're the best" definitely applies to PRS guitars. Paul Reed Smith is a perfectionist at the top, who does not go for less than the best quality.
History of Paul Reed Smith
Born in Maryland in 1956, Paul Reed Smith started building guitars at a young age. He studied mathematics, but always knew he wanted to work with his hands. He built his first guitar for a school assignment, and it was then that he decided this was a dream he wanted to pursue. From then on, he built about one guitar a month. He took these to shows, where he asked professional musicians to play on them. With their feedback, he perfected his guitars again. After countless shows hanging out with roadies, Smith's first breakthrough came when Santana, during a concert, wanted to try one of his guitars and became an instant fan. Smith has worked for many years under the mentorship of former Gibson director Ted McCarty. Together they continued the search for innovation and production techniques. As hommage, PRS released the McCarty line in 1994, inspired by the knowledge Smith gained during this collaboration.
PRS has now officially been around since 1985. Where Smith started with about 50 guitars in the back of a pickup truck, with which he visited small guitar dealers, the company has now grown into a big name with a loyal fan and artist base who love these great guitars.
