Ibanez GB10 George Benson Natural 1980

De GB10 werd in 1977 geïntroduceerd als George Benson's eerste signature model, en was een baanbrekend instrument in de jazzwereld. Benson werkte nauw samen met Ibanez om een gitaar te ontwikkelen die de warme, rijke tonen van een traditionele archtop kon combineren met de betrouwbaarheid en speelbaarheid die een moderne jazzgitarist nodig heeft. Het model werd een instant klassieker en vormde de basis voor Benson's kenmerkende sound op albums als "Breezin'" en talloze andere jazz-fusion meesterwerken.

Deze GB10 uit 1980 belichaamt alles wat het model zo bijzonder maakt. De gelamineerde esdoorn body met sparren bovenblad zorgt voor een prachtige resonantie zonder de feedback-problemen van volledig holle gitaren, terwijl de speciaal ontwikkelde GB mini humbuckers een perfecte balans bieden tussen de warmte van een humbucker en de helderheid van een single coil. 

De driedelige esdoorn hals ligt comfortabel in de hand en de ebben toets met 12" radius maakt zowel akkoordspel als single-note runs een genot. De goudkleurige Ibanez VelveTune stemmechanieken met parelmoer knoppen en het crème bindingwerk geven de gitaar zijn karakteristieke elegante uitstraling, terwijl de verstelbare ebben brug zorgt voor optimale intonatie en speelcomfort.

Dat deze Ibanez uit 1980 komt is moeilijk te geloven, want de gitaar verkeert nog in excellente conditie. De gitaar is uiteraard wel bespeeld, en we vinden dan ook lichte speelsporen op het bovenblad, de hals en de hardware, met daarbij ook lichte buckle wear op de achterzijde van de body. Verder is de binding op enkele plekken verkleurd, net als op de heelcap. De gitaar ziet er verder prima uit voor zijn leeftijd, en wordt met TFOA paspoort geleverd in een koffer.

Introduced in 1977 as George Benson's first signature model, the GB10 was a groundbreaking instrument in the jazz world. Benson worked closely with Ibanez to develop a guitar that combined the warm, rich tones of a traditional archtop with the reliability and playability a modern jazz guitarist demands. The model became an instant classic and formed the foundation for Benson's signature sound on albums like "Breezin'" and countless other jazz-fusion masterpieces.


This 1980 GB10 embodies everything that makes it so special. The laminated maple body with a spruce top provides a beautiful resonance without the feedback problems of fully hollow-core guitars, while the specially developed GB mini humbuckers offer a perfect balance between the warmth of a humbucker and the clarity of a single-coil pickup.


The three-piece maple neck fits comfortably in the hand, and the 12"-radius ebony fingerboard makes both chord playing and single-note runs a delight. The gold-colored Ibanez VelveTune tuners with pearloid buttons and cream binding give the guitar its characteristically elegant appearance, while the adjustable ebony bridge ensures optimal intonation and playing comfort.


It's hard to believe that this Ibanez is from 1980, as it's still in excellent condition. The guitar has, of course, been played, and we find light playwear on the top, neck, and hardware, with some minor buckle wear on the back of the body. Furthermore, the binding is discolored in a few places, as is the heel cap. The guitar looks excellent for its age and comes with a TFOA passport and a hardshell case.

Diese GB10 von 1980 verkörpert alles, was sie so besonders macht. Der Korpus aus laminiertem Ahorn mit Fichtendecke sorgt für eine wunderschöne Resonanz ohne die Rückkopplungsprobleme von Gitarren mit vollständig hohlem Kern, während die speziell entwickelten GB Mini-Humbucker eine perfekte Balance zwischen der Wärme eines Humbuckers und der Klarheit eines Single-Coil-Tonabnehmers bieten.


Der dreiteilige Ahornhals liegt angenehm in der Hand, und das Ebenholzgriffbrett mit 12" Radius macht sowohl Akkord- als auch Einzeltonläufe zum Vergnügen. Die goldfarbenen Ibanez VelveTune-Mechaniken mit Perlmuttknöpfen und cremefarbenem Binding verleihen der Gitarre ihr charakteristisch elegantes Aussehen, während der verstellbare Ebenholzsteg für optimale Intonation und Spielkomfort sorgt.


Man kann kaum glauben, dass diese Ibanez aus dem Jahr 1980 stammt, denn sie befindet sich noch immer in ausgezeichnetem Zustand. Die Gitarre wurde natürlich gespielt, und wir finden leichte Spielspuren an Decke, Hals und Hardware sowie einige minimale Schnallenabnutzungen auf der Rückseite des Korpus. Außerdem sind das Binding und die Fersenkappe an einigen Stellen verfärbt. Die Gitarre sieht für ihr Alter hervorragend aus und wird mit einem TFOA-Pass und einem Hartschalenkoffer geliefert.
