De 6121 werd in 1955 geïntroduceerd als het solid body alternatief voor de hollow body 6120, en beide modellen droegen de naam van country-icoon Chet Atkins. De solid body gitaren van Gretsch zijn echter niet volledig massief, maar hebben een chambered constructie waardoor ze relatief licht van gewicht zijn. De gitaren werden voorzien van een Western-thema, en dit gold voor zowel de 6120, 6121 als de 6130 Roundup. De kenmerkende oranje finish, de lederen rand langs de body en de gold plexi slagplaat geven de gitaar die onmiskenbare fifties-uitstraling waar liefhebbers van vintage Gretsch zo naar op zoek zijn. Om nog maar te zwijgen over die coole G-brand op de body!
Deze 6121 heeft een ebben toets waarop de naam Jerry L. Fryer is ingelegd in parelmoer. Wie deze gitarist was, blijft een mysterie, maar het geeft de gitaar een persoonlijk verhaal dat de verbeelding prikkelt. De binding verkeert in opmerkelijk goede staat voor een Gretsch van deze leeftijd; alleen bij de topkam zijn aan weerszijden kleine stukjes ingezet. De originele DeArmond Dynasonic pickups zijn nog aanwezig, al is het brugelement opnieuw gewonden. Daarnaast zijn ook zijn de stemmechanieken ooit vervangen.
Met die klassieke Dynasonic single coils levert deze 6121 precies de toon die je verwacht: helder, snijdend en vol karakter. Het is een geluid dat onlosmakelijk verbonden is met de vroege rock-'n-roll en rockabilly, en dat na zeventig jaar nog steeds inspireert. The 6121 was introduced in 1955 as the solid body alternative to the hollow body 6120, and both models bore the name of country icon Chet Atkins. However, Gretsch solid body guitars are not completely solid, but have a chambered construction, making them relatively lightweight. The guitars were given a Western theme, and this applied to the 6120, 6121 and the 6130 Roundup. The characteristic orange finish, the leather edge along the body and the gold plexi pickguard give the guitar that unmistakable fifties look that vintage Gretsch enthusiasts are looking for. Not to mention that cool G brand on the body!
This 6121 has an ebony fingerboard on which the name Jerry L. Fryer is inlaid in mother of pearl. Who this guitarist was remains a mystery, but it gives the guitar a personal story that stimulates the imagination. The binding is in remarkably good condition for a Gretsch of this age; only small pieces are inserted on either side at the nut. The original DeArmond Dynasonic pickups are still present, although the bridge pickup has been rewound. In addition, the tuning machines have also been replaced at some point.
With those classic Dynasonic single coils, this 6121 delivers exactly the tone you expect: clear, cutting and full of character. It's a sound that is inextricably linked to early rock 'n' roll and rockabilly, and one that still inspires after seventy years. Furthermore, the guitar has playwear that you would expect from a guitar of this age, and these make this Gretsch an irresistibly cool guitar!

Allerdings sind Gretsch-Solid-Body-Gitarren nicht völlig massiv, sondern verfügen über eine Kammerbauweise, wodurch sie relativ leicht sind. Den Gitarren wurde ein Western-Thema verliehen, das auch für die 6120, 6121 und 6130 Roundup galt. Das charakteristische orangefarbene Finish, der Lederrand entlang des Korpus und das goldene Plexi-Schlagbrett verleihen der Gitarre den unverwechselbaren 50er-Jahre-Look, den Vintage-Gretsch-Enthusiasten suchen. Ganz zu schweigen von dem coolen G-Logo auf dem Körper!
Diese 6121 hat ein Griffbrett aus Ebenholz, auf dem der Name Jerry L. Fryer in Perlmutt eingelegt ist. Wer dieser Gitarrist war, bleibt ein Rätsel, aber es verleiht der Gitarre eine persönliche Geschichte, die die Fantasie anregt. Der Einband ist für eine Gretsch dieses Alters in einem bemerkenswert guten Zustand; nur kleine Stücke werden auf beiden Seiten an der Mutter eingefügt. Die originalen DeArmond Dynasonic-Tonabnehmer sind noch vorhanden, obwohl der Steg-Tonabnehmer neu gewickelt wurde. Darüber hinaus wurden irgendwann auch die Stimmgeräte ausgetauscht.
Mit diesen klassischen Dynasonic-Einzelspulen liefert dieser 6121 genau den Klang, den Sie erwarten: klar, schneidend und voller Charakter. Es ist ein Sound, der untrennbar mit dem frühen Rock'n'Roll und Rockabilly verbunden ist und der auch nach siebzig Jahren noch immer inspiriert. Darüber hinaus verfügt die Gitarre über Spielkleidung, die man von einer Gitarre dieses Alters erwarten würde, und diese machen diese Gretsch zu einer unwiderstehlich coolen Gitarre!
