Slaman 1923 Archtop Cherry 2014

This Slaman 1923 model in cherry red was made in 2014. The inspiration for the finish in transparent cherry thin nitro cellulose came from a 16 inch Gibson L5 that was at one point refinished by Gibson to cherry red.

The top is hand carved European spruce with fine grain, with 2 parallel braces. The back is solid carved flamed European maple, and the sides are flamed maple as well. Neck is three piece; flamed maple with a rosewood center strip. The headstock overlay is ebony with mother of pearl inlays of the name 'The Slaman" and the traditional flowerpot. 

The tuners are first quality Waverly with ivoroid buttons. The fingerboard is ebony with mother of pearl dots, the bridge is in rosewood. The tailpiece is hand made following the original design of the first L5 guitars by Gibson; truly unique as these tailpieces can not be found anywhere else on the planet.

The guitar is free of cracks or any structural problem. Action is low and fast. The finish is thin nitro cellulose where a beginning of craquelé has been made from the start intentionally and that has developed into a beautiful pattern that is subtle and impossible to photograph.

The color you see on the pictures are slightly more brilliant than the actual color which is deeper with a very subtle sunburst pattern (darker towards the edges) and in real life the cherry finish really glows. The 1923 however has a carved maple back which is the most laborious to make of course.
