Powers Electric A Type Pearl White

When we first saw Powers Electric's guitars during our trip to Taylor, we knew immediately: we have to have them!

Most people will know Andy Powers primarily for his role at Taylor Guitars. In 2014, Andy joined Taylor Guitars as a Master Builder. Since then, he has focused on refining Taylor’s acoustic guitar designs, leading to a series of tone-enhancing innovations, including his V-Class bracing, along with many award-winning models. However, what Taylor fans might not know is how deeply rooted Andy’s passion is in the world of electric guitars. 

In addition to his work at Taylor Guitars, Andy has embarked on a new solo project: his own line of electric guitars. Initially, he wanted to design an electric guitar that reflected the character and style of Taylor Guitars. However, according to Taylor founder Kurt Listug, this approach limited the potential he saw in Andy’s project. As a result, Andy decided to forge his own path, drawing inspiration from his other great passions: cars and surfing. This combination led to the creation of the first Powers Electric guitar—the A-Type. 

The A-Type features an Urban Ash body paired with a solid maple top. The guitar sports a strikingly white finish, accented by elegant details such as a firestripe pickguard and unique knobs made from layers of surfboard resin. Andy’s own Toploader Hard Tail tailpiece and a steel bridge with an ebony saddle are complemented by two PF42 single-coil pickups, delivering a punchy, clear sound.
