The Martin D28 is an absolute icon, and the D28s from the period before and during World War II are among the most sought-after acoustic guitars ever. This D28 has serial number 86006, which means it dates from 1943. It looks very neat and is in excellent condition considering its age!

A top-class vintage guitar, with all the beloved features that made it so popular. This 1943 D28 beautifully displays the big, full sound of the mighty dreadnought. Known for its booming projection and tone, the Martin D28 14-fret has been one of the most famous and trusted models played by guitarists all over the world since its introduction in 1934. It also showcases the best of the tonewood, as it features a beautifully figured Brazilian rosewood back and sides and an Adirondack spruce top.

Underneath the top is a rear-shifted scalloped X-bracing. This was the last full year that the D28 featured this scalloped bracing before it was replaced by heavier non-scalloped bracing in 1944. 1943 was also the last year that the ebony fingerboard had the slotted diamond inlay, and naturally, the herringbone purfling on the top completes the look of this fantastic vintage D28.

This 1943 D28 has received the necessary maintenance over the years. The guitar was refinished about 30 years ago and underwent a neck reset in 2018 performed by Martin specialist Dave King in England. During this process, a shim was added both under the fingerboard end and under the nut. The tuning machines were also replaced with Grovers from the 1950s, and a strap button was added to the heel. Finally, the guitar also has the well-known pickguard crack on the top.

The dreadnought body produces a beautifully balanced tone, with the powerful bass being very appealing. The tonal characteristics of Brazilian rosewood remain unsurpassed to this day, and when playing this guitar, you immediately remember why. The deep sound and power this guitar produces, combined with the thick, slightly rounder V-neck, give you the ultimate vintage Martin playing experience!

The guitar comes with a TFOA passport in the original Geib case.
