Hoyer Solist Archtop Natural 1950s

Built in Germany during the 1950s, the Hoyer Solist is a classic archtop that reflects the high level of craftsmanship found in European jazz guitars of the era. With its elegant natural finish, carved spruce top and maple back and sides, the Solist delivers a warm, woody acoustic voice with excellent projection, perfectly suited for traditional jazz, swing and early electric styles.

This example has been fitted with a DeArmond Rhythm Chief 1100 pickup, a highly regarded floating pickup known for its clear, articulate response and authentic vintage character. The guitar now features an adjustable ebony bridge, offering improved setup flexibility, while the original bridge is still included in the case. The pickguard has also been replaced, with the original guard likewise retained, making this a thoughtfully upgraded instrument while preserving its historical completeness.

The maple neck has a comfortable C profile and is paired with an ebony fingerboard with pearl block inlays, providing a smooth and confident playing feel across the full 25.5" scale length. Traditional details such as cat eye f holes, cream binding and multi ply purfling underline the elegant, understated aesthetic of this archtop.

The guitar shows some honest signs of its long life. There are visible screw holes on the upper side of the body from a previously mounted accessory, and a number of cracks have been professionally repaired with small internal wood reinforcements. These repairs are stable and do not detract from the structural integrity or musical performance of the instrument. Overall, the guitar remains in excellent condition for a 1950s archtop and plays and sounds exactly as you would hope from a vintage Hoyer.
