Gibson L00 Sunburst 1933

Regular price € 7.999

The Gibson L00 was introduced in the early 1930s and has remained one of the most beloved acoustic guitar models ever since. A huge success during the Great Depression thanks to its low price and great sound, the L00 remains one of Gibson's most desirable small acoustic guitars. This L00 with its sunburst finish has been a constant favorite of our Fellows over the past few days!

The model is characterized by its compact body with a narrow waist and wide bottom half, which contributes to a surprisingly full and clear sound despite its modest size. Crafted with a solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides, the L00 delivered a rich, warm tone ideal for blues, folk, and fingerstyle players. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, the L00 became a favorite among blues and folk artists, including legendary musicians like Robert Johnson and Woody Guthrie, who valued the instrument for its versatility and expressive tone. Although production of the original L00 ended in the 1940s, the guitar remained an iconic model.

This L00 has undergone some work to ensure its playability, and as you can hear in the demo below, it has been successfully restored! A few braces on the back had come loose, and these have been re-glued, as has the bridge. The frets are a bit low, but they have been leveled, making the guitar perfectly playable. A few cracks on the top have been repaired, and the guitar had a neck reset at an earlier stage. The guitar also exhibits the crackle and playwear that give vintage Gibsons their beloved, lived-in look; unmatched by any modern replica!
