Gibson L00 Century 12 Fret Vintage Amber

The Gibson L00 appeared in the early 1930s and grew into one of the most beloved small-body guitars ever built. These compact models are known for their surprisingly mature sound, which Gibson described as “perfect balance” as early as 1934. Thanks to their comfortable size and direct response, the L-Series guitars quickly became popular as parlor guitars, intended for use in living rooms and small spaces, but their musical versatility eventually made them popular on much larger stages.

With the L00 Century 12-Fret, Gibson gives a new interpretation to this historic design. Instead of the usual 14-fret neck joint, the neck connects to the body at the twelfth fret. As a result, the bridge position shifts further towards the center of the soundboard, where the head is set in motion more efficiently. This results in a warmer, rounder, and more resonant sound with a strong dynamic response, ideal for fingerstyle players and guitarists with a more subtle touch. Although earlier 12-fret L00 models were largely limited to early vintage examples and a few small production runs, Gibson is now bringing this character back within the Century Collection in honor of 100 years of Gibson Flat-Tops.

The guitar combines a mahogany body with a Sitka spruce top and is finished with classic details that reference early Gibson models. The SlimTaper 12-Fret neck is attached via a compound dovetail joint with hot hide glue for optimal resonance and sustain. Furthermore, the L00 Century 12-Fret features a rosewood fingerboard with mother-of-pearl dot inlays, open-back Golden Age tuners, a closed-slot rosewood bridge, a bone nut and saddle, and a hand-sprayed satin nitrocellulose finish. The entire set comes in a Century Collection tweed case and fully exudes the atmosphere of Gibson’s early flat-top history.
