The Gibson Explorer is one of the most iconic guitar shapes ever conceived, but that wasn't immediately apparent when it was introduced in 1958. The futuristic body shape was so radical at the time that the general public initially found it hard to grasp, and production was quickly halted after just 19 units. It wasn't until the 1970s and 1980s, when rock and metal were on the rise, that a new generation of guitarists rediscovered the Explorer as the ultimate statement instrument. Gibson responded to this demand with reissues, and this one rolled out of the factory in 1989.

The Polaris White finish has developed a warm yellowing over the years, giving the guitar precisely the lived-in look you expect from a vintage rock instrument. The guitar has been refretted and fitted with new knobs, but is otherwise completely original, even down to the original Gibson hardshell case.
