The Fender Telecaster Bass was introduced in 1968 and was essentially a reissue of the 1951 Precision Bass, which was already clearly inspired by the Telecaster. With its angular body lacking comfort contours and a small Telecaster headstock, this is evident at first glance, and the simple electronics are also clearly adopted from its source of inspiration.
At first glance, this 1968 Telecaster Bass looks very cool, but it comes with a story. We must be honest and temper overly high expectations, as this bass still requires significant work to get it into playable condition. The neck end slopes upwards, rendering the bass unplayable above the 10th fret due to buzzing frets. To remedy this, the fingerboard must be planed down to lower the overly high frets, and subsequently, in addition to a refret, the fingerboard needs to be refinished.
The bass also features the necessary original parts. The neck bears the stamp 23APR68C, a specific code for a 1968 Telecaster Bass with a wider nut than standard. The year 1968 can also be found on the underside of the Grey Bottom pickup, and the hardware is original as well. Furthermore, the body has been refinished with a blue hammered finish, and the neck has received an overspray. The bass is also equipped with a Jazz Bass single coil in the bridge position, and the two potentiometers have been replaced, as has the nut.
This Telecaster Bass is therefore in fair condition, but will only truly come to life with some extra work!
