We've already welcomed quite a few vintage Fenders to The Fellowship of Acoustics, and this handy Fender Musicmaster with its beautiful Desert Sand finish caught our attention with its striking appearance!
Fender introduced the Musicmaster in 1956 as a 3/4-sized student model, and it was produced as a single-pickup model alongside the two-pickup Duo Sonic. These short-scale models were made to the same high quality standards and materials that Fender used for its more expensive models.
This small and lightweight model features a simple construction with a bolt-on maple neck on a one-piece body, which in the case of this 1960 Musicmaster has a beautifully aged Desert Sand finish. The guitar has a cream-colored pickguard that houses all the electronics; it has a single single-coil pickup in the neck position, which, thanks to the volume and tone controls, offers considerable tonal versatility. The potentiometers have been replaced, but the pickup is original.
The maple neck has a slab rosewood fingerboard with clay dot inlays, and the guitar has recently been refretted. The nut has also been replaced, but the guitar otherwise features the original hardware, such as the bridge and Kluson tuners. The obvious playwear on the body is striking; we can only speculate on the cause. Nevertheless, this 1960 Fender Musicmaster is a wonderful guitar that will enhance any collection!
