The Fender Jazz Bass is one of the most popular bass guitars in history, and this 1978 example lets you feel and hear why!As one of the two prominent basses in Fender's catalog, the Jazz Bass is a familiar sight in the music world. The Jazz Bass was introduced by Fender in 1960 as the Deluxe Bass, and this was reflected in features borrowed from the Jazzmaster. The bass was eventually renamed Jazz Bass because Fender believed the narrow neck would appeal primarily to jazz musicians. This Jazz Bass features a gloss lacquer finished ash offset body with a black pickguard, as has been the standard for the Jazz Bass since 1974. Furthermore, we see a maple neck fitted with a maple fingerboard featuring mother-of-pearl block inlays and white binding. Over the years, the bass has accumulated signs of play and dings, but with its beautiful glossy finish, it otherwise looks remarkably clean for its age.The bass is equipped with two single-coil pickups, the bridge pickup of which has been rewound. The single-coil pickups sound full and fat, and can be operated with separate volume controls and a master tone knob. As can be seen, the knobs for these have been replaced. Finally, beneath the control plate, we find two CTS potentiometers from 1977 and one from 1976.This Jazz Bass is therefore certainly a particularly well-maintained instrument, and with its vintage look, it is definitely an asset for any bassist taking to the stage!
