With the Kingfisher series, Atkin Guitars presents a spectacular new line of guitars that are characterized by their unique aesthetics and sound quality, which sets them apart from the other models in Atkin's extensive range.
This guitar has a beautiful flamed maple back and sides, and like most Atkin guitars it is lightly aged with a baked Sitka spruce top to make the tone even more open, and the look even more attractive! Maple can sometimes give a guitar a somewhat shrill sound, but with the right voicing and construction techniques Atkin has brought out the right mix of warmth and clarity.
The Nineteen is an idea of our own Rudi Bults, elaborated by Alister Atkin. The name comes from the year in which this model was conceived, 2019. The idea was to build a guitar that falls exactly between the '43' and the LG2. In terms of shape, however, it resembles its big brother, because the body is actually that of the Forty Three, but 1 inch smaller. Despite the smaller body, it has that enormous power in the middle, and the beautiful balance of a larger guitar, and it manages to match the rich and powerful sound of the Forty Three. Even the bass is impressive!
The most beautiful detail is without a doubt the engraved and hand-painted kingfisher in the pickguard. Due to the tortoise binding and simple rosette this guitar is also reminiscent of the famous Kalamazoo Oriole, and we can only conclude that Atkin has made a beautiful variation on this.
Atkin Guitars was founded by Alister Atkin in Canterbury, England in 1995. What started as a one-man operation with just a handful of unique guitars each year has steadily grown into one of the most successful acoustic guitar brands in the UK. While Atkin has long proven that the brand can build a guitar like no other, the aging process is perhaps the most impressive aspect of Atkin Guitars. The passion with which these instruments are made shines through, and it is hard not to fall in love with both the sound and the look.
